  15. When you access shares on a Windows NT server from a Windows NT client
  16. and the IRPstackSize parameter is set too low on the server, you may
  17. receive the following error message:
  18.  
  19.    Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

  24. The registry value IRPstackSize, which may be listed at
  25. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ LanmanServer\
  26. Parameters defaults to 0x4 if the value is not explicitly present.
  27. Valid values range from 0x1 to 0xC (1 to 12). Depending on the
  28. hardware configuration of a specific machine, the default value may
  29. not be large enough for the Srv service to properly administer shared
  30. directories on some of the physical drives. When this is the case, the
  31. Event Log on the server in question will contain the following event
  32. message:

  34.    Event ID: 2011  Source: Srv
  35.    The server's configuration parameter "irpstacksize" is too small for
  36.    the server to use a local device.  Please increase the value of this
  37.    parameter.

  39. You may receive the above error message when a Windows NT client tries
  40. to access certain shared directories on such a server.
  41.  
  42. When a Windows for Workgroups client tries to access the same shared
  43. directories, the following message will be generated:

  45.    Path not found.
  46.  
  47. To increase the value of the parameter when it is not already present,
  48. drill down to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\
  49. Services\ LanmanServer\ Parameters key in the Registry Editor and
  50. choose Add Value from the Edit menu. The Value Name should be
  51. IRPstackSize and the Data Type is REG_DWORD.

  53. WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause
  54.          serious, system-wide problems that may require you to
  55.          reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot
  56.          guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of
  57.          Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own
  58.          risk.
